What is TMJ/TMD?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects the lower jaw to the temporal bone of the skull. Problems with the jaw joints, jaw, and surrounding facial muscles can cause temporomandibular disorders (TMD). A thin disc of cartilage sits at the joint between the temporal bone and the jaw, allowing the joint to move smoothly. TMJ problems are often caused by dislocation of this cartilage disc or the jaw, often caused by bite problems. TMD can cause a great amount of pain and discomfort. At Chetan Parikh, DMD, MDS, we are committed to helping you treat TMJ disorders to find relief from pain and live your life to the fullest!
