A denture is a removable appliance that is created to replace missing teeth. Dentures are an important appliance because they help to keep any remaining teeth, as well as the mouth, in proper form when teeth are missing.

There are several types of dentures: complete dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported dentures. Complete dentures are ideal for those who are missing all of their teeth, while partial dentures will be used when some natural teeth remain in the mouth. Implant-supported dentures are secured onto dental implants which were placed in the jawbone. This lends support, security, and stability to the dentures, giving you a smile that looks and feels natural. When in place, your complete, partial, or implant-supported denture will restore both function and health to your smile.

Receiving your complete, partial, or implant-supported denture will require a series of visits to Chetan Parikh, DMD, MDS, DABCDSM over the course of several weeks. During these appointments, our dentist will take highly accurate molds or impressions that will be used to create your custom dentures. If you are receiving implant-supported dentures, the implants should already be in place at this point. Once the dentures have been created, you will return to our office to ensure the fit, shape, and color of the denture. At your final appointment, the dentures will be adjusted and placed by Dr. Chetan Parikh for optimal comfort and aesthetics.

Remember that it does take some time for the muscles and tissues in your mouth to adjust to the dentures. During this time, it is fairly typical to experience soreness, difficulty chewing or speaking, and increased saliva flow. This is normal and will subside once your mouth has healed and adjusted to the dentures.

Our family dentist, Dr. Chetan Parikh, will give you additional instructions on how to maintain your oral health when your dentures are placed. To increase the life of your dentures, clean them both properly and consistently. For more information about dentures in Rockville, Maryland, we invite you to give our dental practice a call soon.
