Crown lengthening is a common dental surgery that is performed to either expose more tooth structure to support a crown or filling or to eliminate a “gummy” smile. Crown lengthening in Rockville, Maryland, can be performed in a single visit at our dental practice by our experienced dentist, Dr. Chetan Parikh. When performed, crown lengthening can be an effective tool in helping you achieve the beautiful smile and optimal oral health that you deserve.
Crown lengthening will require just one visit to our dental practice. First, the dentist will apply anesthesia to the area in question as well as to the neighboring teeth, using our nearly pain-free anesthetic techniques. The gums will then be pulled away from the teeth in order to expose the roots of the tooth and the surrounding bone. In many cases, some gum tissue and bone will need to be removed from near the roots of the teeth for optimal results. Once the necessary amount of tooth structure has been exposed, the dentist will thoroughly wash the area with sterile salt water before putting the gums back into place.
